The innovation project reviews several of the promising milestones achieved during its early stages
The MOVERTE R&D project continues to consolidate its position as a benchmark in the development of innovative solutions for sustainable transport. During the first follow-up meeting held on 24 September, the consortium partners —Integralia, Naitec, Resitex and Geoactio— presented the progress made in the three strategic areas of the project: automation and connectivity, vehicle efficiency and sustainability, and integration of renewable energies.
Automation and connectivity: smart vehicle with edge processing
One of the highlights of this initial phase has been the implementation of a digital cloud environment for vehicle data management. At the same time, progress is being made in the development of a connected vehicle system with local processing capacity (edge computing), which will incorporate advanced features such as:
- Integration of state-of-the-art sensors for the detection of pedestrians and vulnerable users.
- Cybersecurity systems adapted to the vehicle environment.
- Multifunction console with real-time data analysis and intra-vehicle communication capabilities.
These advances will lay the foundations for a new generation of smart minibuses, capable of operating in a safer, more efficient and more connected way.
Weight reduction and structural sustainability without compromising safety
In the area of sustainability and efficiency, the project has achieved promising results in the use of advanced materials. Combinations of natural fibres (such as hemp and flax) and multilayer composites with sustainably sourced carbon fibres have been successfully tested, enabling a reduction in vehicle weight of up to 40% while maintaining the required structural safety standards.
In addition, lighter and more resistant accessibility systems are being developed, along with improvements in thermal and acoustic insulation, durability and ease of maintenance. These innovations aim to optimise the vehicle’s energy performance and reduce its environmental footprint.
Integration of solar energy into auxiliary systems
Another development reviewed during the meeting was the evolution of the system for integrating photovoltaic cells into composite panels. This technology will enable the vehicle’s auxiliary systems to be powered by solar energy, advancing the incorporation of renewable sources into the urban transport ecosystem.
MOVERTE continues to demonstrate the potential of multi-sector collaboration in the development of technological solutions aimed at more sustainable, efficient and connected mobility. The project sets out a clear roadmap for the design of the minibus of the future.
